Following a five point road loss to Texas Tech, Troy bounced back to defeat Division III LaGrange College, 116-63, at Trojan Arena on Sunday.

The Trojans new fast-paced, high-pressure defense forced 29 turnovers and led to easy baskets in the second half.

“They showed us a good press offense, something we haven’t seen yet,” head coach Don Maestri said. “We saw some different things that we had to work against.”

Troy shot 51 percent in the second half and 66 percent from three-point.

Alan Jones paced the Trojans offensively with 23 points, shooting 7-for-12 from three-point range in front of the home crowd.

“It feels good to be home,” Jones said. “We came out and knocked down some shots and played a lot harder.”

Troy improves to 1-1 on the young season but Maestri feels his team has plenty of work to do.

“The only way we are going to be successful is to find another level of effort,” he said. “We are going to have work really hard in order to make this system work.”

The Trojans saw all 11 players that dressed out score and, oddly, all collected an offensive rebound. The team pulled down 33 offensive boards for the game and 68 total, which set a new school Division I record.

Justin Wright scored 18 points for Troy while Ray Chambers had 12.

Troy will travel to take on East Tennessee State in Johnson City on Nov. 19. Tip is set for 4 p.m.
