If you have a knack for filling out tax forms and a desire to help others, AARP Tax-Aide wants you.

The nation’s largest free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service is seeking volunteers across South Alabama to help Alabama taxpayers who are seeking assistance in preparing and filing their 2011 tax returns.

Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or retiree to participate.

The volunteers receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the state.

“Last year we assisted over 600 people in the Wiregrass area preparing and filing their tax returns, at no cost to the individual,” said Mike Olson, district coordinator. “WE could not have done this without our volunteers, who make an indelible mark on the communities they helped.”

More than 300 volunteers participated in AARP Tax-Aide last year, helping more than 20,000 taxpayers across the state. The AARP Tax-Aide program is part of the AARP Foundation and is offered in conjunction with the IRS.

Anyone interested volunteer can visit www.aarp.org/tavolunteer8 or call 1-888-687-2277. The deadline for application is Dec. 15.
