Tennis Classic rolls on despite showers

Despite the abrupt flash of thunderstorms, the USTA Tennis classic of Troy continued on through Thursday.
Top seeded Romina Oprandi of Italy continued her success as she beat out Veronica Cepede Royg of Paraguay in only two sets (6-2; 6-0), sending her to the quarterfinals. Oprandi will face the winner of American Shelby Rogers and Canadian Sharon Fichman (6).
Highly regarded American competitor Grace Min also carried her success on through round two, defeating fellow American Ahsha Rolle in two sets (6-3; 6-3). Min will go on to the quarterfinals as well as she will take on the winner of Kazakhstan’s Sessil Karatantcheva and American Alexis King.
The tournament will continue through the week with the final matches set for Sunday at 1 pm. The winner on Sunday will walk away with their share of the $50,000 prize money as well as tournament points to help them on to other tournaments in the Pro Circuit.
