Police seek suspects in store robberies

Two convenience store robberies within the three days have Troy police searching for suspects.

“Both incidents are still under investigation,” Police Chief Jimmy Ennis said Tuesday morning.

The first robbery took place about 3:30 a.m. Sunday at the ZTech at 803 U.S. 231 (near Sanders Road).

“Two black males entered the store and robbed the store clerk,” Sgt. Benny Scarbrough said in a statement. “One of the suspects produced a fiream and demanded the clerk give him the money in the cash register. An undisclosed amount of money was taken …

“The suspects fled the scene.”

Sometime after 11 p.m. Monday, a clerk from the Texaco store on U.S. 87 was robbed outside the store. “The incident occurred while they were closing up.,” Ennis said.

According to the police department statement, the clerk said “a black male suspect approached him outside the store and demanded money from him at gunpoint.”

Ennis said the victim was hit in the head “and his wallet and a money bag were taken,” Ennis said. “His wallet was recovered nearby.”

Another clerk was inside at the time of the incident.

“At this time, we have do not believe these incidents are related,” Ennis said, “but we are continuing to investigate them.”
