SEALE – The Charles Henderson Trojans struck early and held on late en route to a 47-14 win over Russell County.
The dynamic duo of Stanley Crawford and Courtney Downing combined for four touchdowns and 202 yard rushing on the night.
“Giving both of them carries has been our game plan all year” said Charles Henderson head coach Hugh Fountain. “We just rode the o-line and rode the running game all night and got us a win.”
Russell County did pull within five points of CHHS late in the first half, but Fountain dialed Downing and Crawford’s number throughout the second half as the Trojans pounded out another region win.
Not wanting to be out done by his teammates, senior quarterback Joe Bradley fired two touchdown strikes in the game; a six yard strike to Robert Lee early in the game and a 13 yarder to Brandon Gosha in the third quarter to ice the game away.
“We having been working on getting our offense more balanced” said Fountain. “We have been run heavy early on, and now Joe is helping spread the offense around.”
The Trojan defense turned in a stellar night, allowing only 116 yards of offense to the Warriors from Seale.
“The defense played well, got some big plays for us, and held them in check all night” said Fountain.
Charles Henderson’s special team unit got in on the scoring midway throughout the game’s second stanza.
“We got a good rush, and partially blocked the kick and it rolled out of the end zone.” Fountain said.
The Trojans return home to square off with the Rehobeth Rebels next Friday night in what Fountain calls a “big time game.”
“We need to win to keep pace with everyone else in a out region” said the Trojan head man. “They are riding a two game winning streak and we expect a tough game.”
Friday night’s match up with Rehobeth is homecoming at Charles Henderson High.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
