Joseph Donald Brown, Sr.

Joseph Donald Brown, Sr., age 82, of Fort Salerno, Florida passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011.

He was born February 24, 1929, the fifth of five children to Roxie and Lana Brown. Joe graduated from Martin County High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the John R. Pierce and the U.S. Thompson from June 1948 to June 1952. In 1953, he married Jessie Craton and they resided in Pompano Beach, FL. Joe spent 41 years as an electrician and retired in 1994. In May 2010, he received his 50 year pin from the IBEW Local Union 728. In 1999, Joe and Jessie moved to Brundidge to be nearer their family. They joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brundidge and were part of a wonderful church family. Joe was a faithful Christian and was the best husband, father, father-in-law and grandfather ever. Joe is survived by his wife of 58 years, Jessie; daughter: Sharon and husband Doug Morris of Atlanta, GA; son: Jody and wife Nadine of Union Springs, AL; granddaughter, Kristie, great granddaughters, Hailie, Hannah and Jodee Lynn; daughter: Dana and husband Kendall Thomas, Brundidge; grandson, Bryan and Whittney Stone, Brundidge; great granddaughters, Hagen and Taylar-Rae; granddaughter, Shaana and Marc Allen of Brundidge. A viewing will be held at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 18 Highway 231, Brundidge on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 beginning at 9 a.m. Funeral services will be held immediately following at 11 a.m. with Pastor Gerald R. Wilkes and Rev. Rex Godwin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Navy Military Honors, Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery Fund, 147 County Road 4435, Brundidge, AL 36010 or to the Gideons Bible Memorials, P.O. Box 245, Troy, AL 36081.
