Studio hosts ‘First Thursday’ picnic

Gnats, ants and sweltering heat often take the fun out of July picnics.
But not the picnics held each First Thursday Night at The Studio in downtown Troy.
First Thursday Nights easily adapt to the season –picnics in the spring and summer and tailgating in the fall – and are much anticipated events for the many who attend.
The First Thursday Night at the Studio in July will be Thursday night and will feature entertainers Lauryn Oliver, Johnny Barron and Friends and John Jinright.
“Each First Thursday Night brings back familiar entertainers and also introduces new ones to the audience,” said Richard Metzger, Johnson Center for the Arts executive director. “These events are designed to offer outstanding local entertainment in a casual atmosphere and at a convenient location in our downtown area. It is the goal of the Johnson Center to provide these community concerts throughout the year as a way of expanding the programs of the Johnson Center.”
Fellowship is at the center of each First Thursday Night event as friends and neighbors pack picnics and stock coolers and join the fun of a night downtown.
“Some people bring picnic baskets, some stop at their favorite restaurants and pick up carry-outs while others reserve a table and dine family style,” Metzger said. “Either way, it’s a fun way to dine out with friends. We’ve had large crowds and expect a good turnout for the July event.”
Admission is $25 for couples, $12.50 for individuals and $100 for reserved tables of eight.
The doors of The Studio open at 5:30 p.m. and the music begins at 6 p.m.
First Thursday Night at the Studio is a fundraiser for the Johnson Center for the Arts.
The Studio is located at 301 East Walnut Street in downtown Troy.
Reservations are not required. Just bring a picnic and join the fun.
