Noah walks to raise cancer awareness

Sharon Noah is a member of the Sikorsky Support Services Relay for Life team but she wants to do more.
And, she has reason to do more – lots of reasons – family and friends reasons.
Noah lost both of her parents to cancer and many other family members have been diagnosed with cancer. Most recently, her brother was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“Breast cancer is not common among men but it happens,” Noah said. “Usually it occurs in heavy set men but my brother is tall and thin.”
His breast cancer was found almost by chance.
“Jerome went to the doctor to get a mole removed and the doctor noticed a lump on his breast,” Noah said. “My brother thought it was scar tissue from a wreck that he had been involved in but the doctor wanted to check it out. It was cancer and he had to have a radical mastectomy. He’s doing good and is cancer free.”
For her brother, other family members, friends and countless strangers who are affected by the disease, Noah has made a commitment to walk in the Susan G. Komen “3-Day for a Cure” walk in Atlanta in October.
The “3-Day for a Cure” walk is a national event for men and women who want to make a personal difference in the lives of those who are going through cancer by raising awareness of the disease and raising funds to find a cure.
“You walk 60 miles in three days and to be able to participate in the walk, you have to raise $2,300 and that will be the hard part,” Noah said, with a smile. “The walk I can do but I’ll have to depend on others to help raise the money.”
Noah said she wants to do all that she can to help rid the world of cancer.
“There are probably few if any people who haven’t been affected in some way by this disease,” she said. “So many people in our lives are told they have cancer. When you hear this news, you say a prayer and stand by almost helplessly as this person goes through this struggle. I want to make this personal and do what I can for all of those who are faced with this terrible disease.”
Noah said that she will greatly appreciate any contributions that will help her achieve her monetary goal.
