Kathryn Elizabeth Jernigan

Funeral service for Mrs. Kathryn Elizabeth Jernigan, 80, of Jackson’s Gap, were Monday, April 4, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the New Beginning Baptist Church. Members of the family officiated. Burial followed in the Hartford City Cemetery at 4:30 p.m. The family received friends on Sunday, April 3, 2011, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jernigan passed away on Friday, April 1, 2011, at her residence. She was born on March 26, 1931, in Hartford, to James F. Orr and Augie Woodham Orr. She was an active member of New Beginning Baptist Church and was a very supportive minister’s wife. She was also a caring and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Kathryn was a very talented and gifted musician and had a love of music. She was an avid Auburn football fan and enjoyed water sports on Lake Martin. She was a retired elementary school teacher and was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Sorority.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, the Rev. Ralph B. Jernigan of Jackson’s Gap; sons, Ralph B. Jernigan, Jr. (Debbie) of Tampa, Fla., Dr. John Orr Jernigan of Talladega and James E. Jernigan (Denise) of Pell City; grandchildren, Bridget Ann Taylor, Brad Jernigan (Stacey), Brooke Lawson (Rick), Randi McManus (John), Lauren Jernigan, Alex Jernigan, Jillian Elizabeth Jernigan and Aaron Jernigan; great-grandchildren, Chloe Taylor, Emma Taylor, Kathryn Faith Taylor, Olivia Lawson, Mackenzie Jernigan and Talen McManus; and brother, James W. “Jimmy” Orr (Betty) of Hartford.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Kathyrn’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Southern Care Hospice and Alacare Home Healthcare.
