An 18-year-old Troy woman has been arrested in the shooting of a 21-year-old Goshen man early Saturday morning.
Jonteria Desira Rogers, 18, was charged with first-degree domestic violence and released on a $20,000 bond.
According to Sgt. Benny Scarbrough of the Troy Police Department, police responded to a 911 call at approximate 6:15 a.m. Saturday at Hillside Mobile Home Park. Once there, they found a man who had been shot once in the chest by a handgun. Rogers was in the mobile home with the victim.
“We believe this is going to be domestic in nature,” Scarbrough said.
The victim, whose name has not been released by police, was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center and then to Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery.
This was the second domestic-related shooting a 48-hour time frame. On Thursday, Carlos Asharree Pugh, 25, of Brundidge, was charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of Chandler Apartments. Another man was shot once in the upper torso in what Scarbrough also described as a “domestic” incident.
“What that means is they are people who are having some type of relationship with that person,” Scarbrough said. “Of course, the guy who was shot the other day, he wasn’t in a relationship with that guy, but they had one thing in common and that was a woman: they had both been in a relationship with her.”
The victim in Thursday’s incident also was transported to a Montgomery hospital for treatment.
Scarbrough said police investigators were headed to Montgomery on Monday to talk with both victims as part of the ongoing investigations.
