Patriots take down Lakeside

Since falling to Glenwood in the season opener last Monday afternoon, the Pike Liberal Arts Patriots have not lost since.

On Monday, the team opened up its home schedule against Prattville Christian and came away with a 13-8.

On Tuesday, the result was the same – just away from it home turf.

The Patriots traveled to Eufaula, where it met up with Lakeside. The final score would not be as close as it was the day before it, however.

PLAS returned to Troy with a 13-3 victory, thanks to junior center fielder, Nick McLaughlin, who finished 3-3 with four RBIs and just one double shy of completing the cycle, as he it a home run, a triple and a single.

Also contributing at the plate was Robert Benton, who finished 1-1 with four walks and three runs scored.

Lawson Stewart got the victory for the Patriots, tossing four innings and giving up just two hits.

He also struck out six and walked three.

Josh Starling came in for the final three innings, striking out two while giving up two hits.

Against the Panthers on Monday, Sam Carroll threw three innings, striking out six and did not give up a run.

He also helped his own cause at the plate, going 2-5 with two RBIs and a double.

Benton finished 2-2, with three walks and four runs scored.

McLaughlin finished with a double, an RBI and three runs scored in the win as well.

In his last 10 plate appearances, the sophomore Benton, who is the team’s leadoff man, has reached safely every time.

The Patriots will be in action again on the road Thursday, as it takes on Crenshaw Christian.

The next home game at PLAS will be on Monday against Edgewood in a double-header meeting.
