Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pike County will celebrate Christmas this year with more than 185 children.

These children are between the ages of five and 18 and are enrolled in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pike County program.

“Because of the incredible support of the Pike County community, Big Brothers Big Sisters has made great strides over the last 13 years,” said Melinda Conner, activities coordinator for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pike County. “We are asking the community to lend a helping hand and bring a little extra joy to the lives of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters by supporting our 2010 Holiday Celebration.”

Conner said there are four ways to lend support to the 2010 Big Brothers Big Sisters Holiday Celebration. The first is by sponsoring a child.

“To sponsor a child, call the Big Brothers Big Sister office at 566-2454 and discuss a child’s wish list with us,” Conner said. “Purchases should be kept in the $40 range. We ask that gifts be delivered to our office unwrapped.”

Another way to support Holiday Celebration is to donate unwrapped gifts for Santa to give.

“Monetary donations are always welcome,” Conner said. “All monetary donations should be earmarked ‘Christmas 2010’ and Big Brothers Big Sisters staff members will purchase extra gifts for children who are not sponsored. And, we need stocking stuffers such as candy, small toys, coloring books and other small items.”

All donations have to be made by Tuesday, Nov. 30.

“The support of the community of our Little Brothers and Little Sisters is greatly appreciated,” Conner said. “Together, we can continue to make a positive difference in the lives of these children and their families.”
