Services for John Winston (JW) Childs who died October 09, 2010 were at 2 p. m. Monday, October 11, 2010 at Trinity Church with Pastor Gene Hauser officiating.

Interment was in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

John owned and operated Childs Geneva Jewelers from 1940 until 1997. He worked as Supervisor of the Clock and Recording Machine Department at Brookley Field in Mobile during WW II, having access to all areas. He was previous Commander at Woodman Lodge, Lions Club President, president of Geneva Merchants Association, served as Sunday school teacher, Brotherhood president, R.A. Leader, Discipleship Training Director and Deacon and Trustee of First Baptist Church. He was one of the oldest members of Trinity Church in Geneva.

John was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Margaret Gilmore Childs of Geneva; parents, John L. and Clotie Childs; brothers Ralph (Jack) Childs of Troy and Charles Childs of Troy and sister, Marjorie Valentine of San Antonio, Texas.

He is survived by his wife, Voncile Childs of Geneva; children, Judy (Doug) Lolley of Geneva, Cynthia Stevens of Northport and Rita (Eddy) Woodham of Opelika; sister, Dorothy (Frank) Gorman of Troy; grandchildren, Kedra (Scott) Mendenhall of Slocomb, Laura (Travis) Walls of North Spring, West Virginia, John Summerlin of Dothan, Julie (David) Martin of Dothan, Beth and (David) Channell of Northport, Rebekah Stevens of Northport and Peggy (Matt) Sinclair of Fayetteville, North Carolina; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
