Mr. Melvin Lamar Belcher, Sr., age 94, of Brundidge died Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at 3:30 pm from the Chapel of Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge with Reverend Jimmy Spikes and Tommy Strother officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2010 from 2:30 pm until 3:30 pm at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge.

Mr. Belcher is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ruby White Belcher, his son Byron Belcher and wife Becky of Fort Walton Beach, Mel Belcher and wife Christie of Potomac Falls, VA and Bill Belcher of Brundidge, and grandchildren Christopher Belcher and Morgan Belcher.

Mr. Belcher was preceded in death by his parents, Allison and Cora Belcher, brothers Vernon Belcher and Clark Belcher, and sisters Mable Rodgers and Ethell Harkness.

Mr. Belcher led a full, active life. He operated the City Market and Grocery in Brundidge for more than 61 years. He enjoyed his farm neat Tarentum. For many years, he was an active fisherman. He served honorably in WWII aboard the USS Wichita.

Honorary pallbearers will be Lamar Steed and Harold Nicholson.
