Seniors wrap-up celebration with ‘blues’

The seniors at the Colley Senior Complex will be singing the blues tonight as National Senior Center Month draws to a close.

The senior center will culminate a month-long flurry of events designed especially for them with “Blues and Barbecue” from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at the Colley Annex. The event is free.

“We invite everyone to come out and celebrate the closing of National Senior Center Month together,” said Janet Motes, Center director. “We’ll have great food and great music and the weather promises to be great. We’ll have tables and chairs set up in the backyard, but those who want to bring their lawn chairs may certainly do so.”

The fare will include pork barbecue with all the trimmings and music by Lenny Trawick, the Jim Bell Trio and Shelia Jackson and Company.

Each of the musicians will play about 20 minutes so everyone is encouraged to eat and stay around and enjoy all of the music and, if you feel like dancing, “to dance,” Motes said.

“‘Blues and Barbecue’ will be a fitting end to National Senior Center Month and also an end of the summer party, too,” Motes said. “We’ll end in time for everyone to get over to the Claudia Crosby Theater for the Billy Jonas Concert at 7:30,” Motes said. “It’s going to be a great show, and we don’t want to miss it.”
