Running is in for the cure, as the 2nd annual Fight Like a Girl 5K run will be held this year October 9 at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Troy.

This year, the Troy Rotary Club will be presenting the event. All the proceeds benefit the Pike County Relay For Life.

“A lot of interest has been placed, so far as people are calling in from outside areas to get specifics about the race,” said Jason Jones of Jones Medical Supply.

Jones said 250 participants are expected, up from last year’s total of 200.

The projected goal to raise this year for Relay For Life is $5,000.

“Because of our generous sponsors we should be able to cover costs to where all of the entry fees go straight to the Relay for Life,” Jones said.

Early Registration fee for the 5K is $25, and the early registration fee for the fun run is $15.

October 2 is the cut off date for early registration. After this day, both fees will be $5 dollars more.

Along with the increase, late registries are not guaranteed a shirt that is included with registering.

Runner’s can register online at www.fightlikeagirl5k.org.

The course for the race will begin on the square, continue onto West Walnut Street to College Stret, then Three Notch, Orange Street and West Fairview Street, then finish back on the square.

The 5K runners are distributed into divisions of age between male and female consisting of ages 0-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-50, and 60+.

This year another addition to the 5K is cash prizes for the top three overall runners in the male and female divisions.

For first place, $100 second place will receive $50, and $25 for third. The top three runners will also receive medals.
