Derek Mac Childs of Troy died Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Troy Regional Medical Center in Troy.
He was 62.
Funeral services for Derek Mac Childs will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Springhill Emmanuel Holiness Church in Springhill with Rev. Wilburn Kirkland officiating.
Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery with Skeen Funeral Home of Brundidge directing. Visitation for Mr. Childs will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at Springhill Emmanuel Holiness Church.
Mr. Childs was born June 24, 1948 in Brundidge, Alabama.
An ordained Holiness Minister, he was a great singer especially in gspel and country music.
He was a horse trainer and a retired truck driver. Suvivors include his wife: Victoria “Liz” Childs, Troy; 4 children: Cris and his wife, Dawn Ann Childs, Rocky Head; Jack Childs, and Timothy Childs, Jack, AL.; Christine Childs, Troy; 2 step-children: Jimmie Rutledge, Hattiesburg, MS; Cara (Joe) Manchel, Banks; mother: Christine McWaters Bolling, Entreprise; 2 brothers and sisters-in-law: Roy (Marcy) Childs and Ron (Virgie) Childs, all of New Brockton; 3 sisters and brothers-in-law: Gloria Childs, Virginia; Karen Bolling (Larry) Callahan and Sally Jan (Steve) Restievo, all of Enterprise; 2 step-brothers, 2 step-sisters, 8 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Childs was preceded in death by his father, Constantine S. Childs, 2 brothers, Burnice Alan Childs and Jon Bolling, 1 sister, Debra Anne Wilson, 2 nieces, Talietha Childs and Glenda Childs, grandparents, Bernice and Eathel Strength McWaters, and a stepson, Wesley Hopper.
