Mary Frances Rawlins Hilyer, age 82, of Troy, Alabama, died Sunday, August 8, 2010 at her home. Funeral arrangements for Mrs. Hilyer will be Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Green Hills Funeral Home with Reverend David McVay officiating. Burial will follow in Green Hills Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, August 9, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 p.m. at Green Hills Funeral Home.
Mrs. Hilyer retired as an English teacher after 33 years of service. She worked many years at Charles Henderson High School and Troy State University. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for 53 years, where she was the Sunday School teacher for the Ann Love Sunday School class. Mrs. Hilyer was involved with numerous Civic Clubs and Cultured Organizations.
She was preceded in death by her parents W.B. and Mamie Rawlins; one brother, Wilbur B. Rawlins, Jr. and one sister, Mildred R. Pettis.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Mr. Leon Hilyer; two daughters Amy Gaskin (Jimmy), and Leigh Isball (Hal); five grandchildren, Emily Gaskin, Bea Gaskin, Christi Isball, Hal Isball and Hilyer Isball.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The American Cancer Society, the Troy Public Library and/or the First United Methodist Church Building Fund.
