John M. Anderson was born the fourteenth child of Thomas Anderson and Lula Davis on May 20, 1912. He received Christ under the leadership of G. W. Gray at New Hope Valley Baptist Church at the age of seven. He met and married Ella Kate Toles on February 24, 1935. To this union were born Willie, Gussie, Sanford, and Clara. Also another son Jessie Canty, was born prior to this union.
He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather and wonderful friend. He was a strong Christian man and a loyal friend. He was known for saying what he meant and meaning what he said. He loved gardening, fishing, and traveling. He always looked forward to attending the Crenshaw County Alabama Families Reunion.
Grand-daddy was an excellent grandfather, he taught us many wonderful life lessons whether we wanted to learn them or not. He never missed an opportunity to teach and enrich the lives around him.
He leaves to cherish his memories: one sister, Lizzie Mae McDonald, four children, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-five great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was a Prince Hall Mason.
He was preceded in death by one son, parents and sixteen brothers and sisters.
