Tiger Sharks prepare for District

While there are baseball and softball teams competing in District Tournaments all over the state, there is another Troy team that is getting ready to do the same – just not on the field, but in the water.

With a little more than week left, the Troy Tiger Sharks are in full training mode for a meet it has been preparing for all year long, the District Meet in Eufaula, which will take place on Saturday, July 17.

“Everything has been going really well,” head coach Shane Tatum said Thursday evening about the team’s practices leading up to the meet. “They are all pretty excited about it, but the real training will begin next week.”

In all, there will be 35 swimmers from Troy competing in District, with the hopes of going on to the State Meet.

atum said his swimmers will be working specifically on their individual stroke and conditioning.

All swimmers have to do to advance to State is finish in the top three in their respective events, and Tatum said he expects about 85 percent of his swimmers competing to advance.

“That’s a good number and also the number we took last year to State,” Tatum said. “Our team will be ready. They have been waiting for this for a long time – this is one of the most important meets of the year.”

Along with Troy, four other teams will be competing for a shot as State: Eufaula, Dothan, Andalusia and Wiregrass Aquatics Club.
