The first time Troy and Ozark met in the Ponytails Sub-District tournament, it was Troy that came from behind to win.

Tuesday, however, it was Ozark that picked up the 12-10 win in dramatic fashion to eliminate Troy.

Troy led 10-3 going into the bottom of the third before Ozark began to mount its comeback.

Makaela Jackson, Kayla Smith, Faith Nance and Savanna Payne all scored in the third to cut the lead to 10-7.

Kayley Grantham scored in the fourth to make it 10-8, setting the stage for Ozark’s final turn at bat.

In the bottom of the fifth, Ozark scored four more times when Jackson, Summer Simmons, Smith and Laura Guttowsky scored to give Ozark the 12-10 lead and put Troy down to its final three outs.

Troy was unable to reach base in the top of the sixth, sealing the win for Ozark

“We had too many walks,” said Troy head coach Terry Motes.

“We hit the ball well most of the game, but we just gave them too many unearned runs. But, you have to give Ozark credit. They came back and hit the ball very well.”

Despite the loss, Motes said he enjoyed the tournament experience with his team.

“They were a privilege to coach,” Motes said. “They did an awesome job of working hard, and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of parents, or a better sense of togetherness.”
