In the 2010 District 9 Machine Pitch Tournament, the Brundidge team crushed Zion Chapel 21-15 in a slugfest.

The throw-down ended early after Brundidge run-ruled the Coffee County squad in the 5th inning of the contest, which was scheduled to go six.

“I’m very proud of them,” said Brundidge head coach Jimmie Dixon after the game Friday night.

“They were hitting the ball good.”

That was no exaggeration as every player on the Brundidge squad got a piece of the 21 run performance, embarrassing the pitching machine on the mound.

Zion Chapel made plenty of contact as well however, causing some problems for Brundidge’s busy fielders.

“A couple of innings we made a couple of errors,” Dixon said, “We’ve got to tighten up the defense.”

Dixon said most of the game went according to plan though, a great way to start the tournament for a team that played only 10 regular season games this season. Brundidge advances in the tournament and will be back in action Monday night to face the winner of Troy and Eufaula at 8 p.m.

“I hope they keep with the intensity they’ve got,” coach Dixon said.
