With the tournament season only a few days away from kicking off, all the recreation baseball teams are putting in the final tune-ups before taking the field on Saturday.
Many of the tournament baseball teams were in action this past Saturday in warm-up tournaments being held in Enterprise or Luverne.
The Dixie Youth O-Zone Rookie team was one of teams competing this weekend, and while it may have come back with a split, losing to Enterprise 6-5 in the first game and defeating Wakulla County (Fla.), 18-4 in the second, head coach Ashley Floyd said he likes where his team is.
“Even in the loss, I thought we hit the ball extremely well,” he said.
“That was the most improved part of our game – that and I thought we played very well in the outfield.”
In the two games, the team only struck out three times, as well.
Both the American and National Farm teams were in action as well, and like the O-Zone Rookies, both teams split their two games.
The American team lost to Enterprise 9-1 in game one however, bounced back to defeat Crenshaw County 11-7 in game two, while the National team split its first two games against Enterprise and Eufaula, dropping the first one, 15-12, before winning the second, 15-1.
There were two teams that went undefeated over the weekend. The Troy Dixie Minor American team went a perfect 3-0 over the two day tournament, defeating Dothan American Red team 18-0 on Friday night, and then beating both Wicksburg and the Dothan National Blue team 4-2 and 5-4, respectively. Meanwhile, the Dixie Boys 13-year-old team finished 2-0, defeating South Dale 6-1 and Eufaula, 12-1.
All the tournament teams, with the exception of five, will be in action this weekend in the Sub-District Tournament.
