The Troy Dixie Minor American team took the field both Friday and Saturday and in both days, the end result was the same.
Troy went a perfect 3-0 over the last two days, defeating Dothan American Red team 18-0 on Friday night, and then taking care of Wicksburg and the Dothan National Blue team 4-2 and 5-4.
“We had a very productive weekend,” head coach Frank Scarbrough said Saturday night.
“I thought we looked good for only having three practices so far. The kids played hard and battled all the way through.”
In the first game of Saturday, the team trailed Wicksbug by two runs early on, however, rallied to score four runs to take the lead.
“We did a good job of hitting the ball hard,” the coach said. “[Wicksburg] is a really good team and made some great plays.”
In the second game, Troy went scored five runs in the first inning and was able to old off Dothan from making any late comebacks.
In 13 innings of play, the Troy pitchers only allowed six runs.
“These were warm up games, and the main point of them is to get the kids used to playing with one another and playing on this level,” Scarbrough said.
“We all were proud of how the team played. There are definitely things that we need to address, like getting familiar with each other but we have a very talented team here and we are going to go after it.”
