Lightning strike closes runway

A lightning bolt blasted into a runway at Troy Municipal Airport Tuesday, effectively shutting it down for the rest of the week.

“I’ve seen lightning strike the runway before, but never blow a hole in it,” said TMA Fixed Base Operator Trent Crawford.

Crawford then dispatched Floyd Construction to repair the damage.

“We finally got it fixed late yesterday,” Crawford said Friday.

While the bolt rendered the runway unserviceable for three days, business carried on at TMA.

“Fortunately we have two runways,” Crawford said.

The runway was officially reopened Friday morning.
