Samuel Townsend

Samuel Francis Townsend died in Taccoa, Georgia on June 13, 2010.
He was born November 15, 1921 in Troy.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn Whitehurst Townsend; sons, Samuel Martin (Sue) Townsend and Harry Clay (Pam) Townsend; four granddaughters,; two great-grandsons; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Billy Gibson and brother-in-law, Robert Newman all of Troy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Oliver and Mattie Townsend; brothers, Andrew Criswell Townsend and James Oliver Townsend; sisters, Aylor T. Finlay, Martha T. Newman and Rebecca T. Railey.
He graduated from Pike County High School, attended Northwestern University and graduated from Troy State Teachers College.
He was a Veteran of World War II. He was the first announcer for radio station WTBF in 1947 and later owned and operated radio station WCNU in Crestview, Florida.
A memorial service will be held in Troy at a later date.
