The Troy University Dance Repertory Ensemble will present “Dress for China,” a showcase rehearsal for its China Tour, at 7:30 tonight at the Claudia Crosby Theater on the campus of Troy University.
Admission is free and Troy University students and the Troy area communities are invited and encouraged to attend this special performance and send best wishes to the dancers as they prepare for this unique performance experience, said Dr. Maryjo Cochran, dean of the College of Communication and Fine Arts.
Performances by the Troy University Dance Repertory Ensemble are scheduled throughout the 15-day tour of China at several venues, including the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on June 22.
“For the nine dancers, the opportunity to dance in the People’s Republic of China as part of the celebration of the Sino-American 1-2-1 Dual Degree Program’s 10th anniversary is monumental,” Cochran said. “The opportunity for our dancers to perform in the Great Hall of the People is beyond belief. It would be like dancing in the White House or Buckingham Palace. Truly, it is the opportunity of a lifetime.”
Members of the ensemble are Courtney Allen, a broadcast journalism student from Tampa; Christina Green, a junior communications major from Dothan; Adrienne Hicks, a senior theater major from Troy; Kaitlyn Morgan, a junior from Panama City; Stephanie New, a senior history major from Huntsville; Alex Straughn, a junior marketing/public relations major from Mobile; Ariel Tingle, a sophomore elementary education major from Woodstock; Sydnii Todd, a sophomore broadcast journalism major from Birmingham; and Ashley Woods, a sophomore sports medicine major from Apopka, Florida.
Deborah Hicks coordinates the ensemble.
