Troy man arrested on drug charges

A Troy man was taken into custody Tuesday after officers seized illegal drugs from his home.

James Earl Burney, 28, faces charges of possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana second degree and possession of drug paraphernalia after a search warrant was executed on a Troy home Tuesday, said Police Chief Anthony Everage.

Everage said officers executed the warrant Tuesday at a residence on Aster Avenue.

They seized substances that tested positive for cocaine and marijuana and also a set of digital scales and around $800 in cash.

Officers of the Troy Police Department, Pike County Sheriff’s Department members assigned to the 12th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, the Troy Police Emergency Response team and patrol officers assisted in the incident.

Burney was transported to the Troy City Jail and later to the Pike County Jail, where he remains with no bond due to probation for previous distribution and possession of controlled substance charges.

The case remains under investigation.
