Goshen High School football coach Bart Snyder and Blue Steel Records Artist Anna Garrott will host the “Playing and Praying for EB Johnson Benefit Concert” beginning at 6 p.m. tonight at the Pike County Fairgrounds.

Jessica Helms, an organizer of the event, said the lineup of performers is outstanding and includes Kevin Sport, country music artist and host of the TV show, “The Right Place.”

“We also have Renny McNaughton, Benjie Sanders and County Line and a special performance by Nashville recording artist, Daryl Singletary,” Helms said. “It’s a great lineup and the concert is for such a good cause. We hope to have a huge crowd.”

Admission to the benefit concert is $10 for adults and $5 for children, ages four to 12. Children under three are admitted free.

All proceeds from the concert will go to the Troy and Marla Johnson family to help defray the expenses incurred during the illness of three-year-old EB who was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer in November 2009.

“Marla is a teacher at Goshen and Troy is a detective for the Pike County Sheriff’s Department,” Helms said. “Marla is helping to shape the minds of the children of Pike County and Troy puts on a gun and badge every day to protect our community. This is a family that does so much for us. We wanted to do something for them to show that the community is here for them.

“None of us can move mountains but we can pick up stones and push away some of the boulders to help EB’s road to recovery easier to travel for her and her family.”

Everyone is encouraged to come out to the Pike County Fairgrounds tonight and show their support for the Johnson family of Goshen.

“This is a fun-filled event for the entire family,” Helms said. “We’ll have a clown that makes balloon animals, face painting and cotton candy for the kids and lots of other fun things for everyone.”
