After winning its first two games Friday afternoon and night, the Goshen Eagles came into the second day of the softball Super Regional looking to continue it’s winning ways.

However, in the first game of the day, GHS faced an opponent that has given the team trouble every time they meet.

It was last year in the Super Regional when American Christian Academy ousted the Eagles in the tournament and thus ended there season.

This time around, it was the same result, as the Eagles fell for the first time, 9-1, in the third round of the double-elimination tournament.

“Their pitching held us,” head coach Dee Hughes said after the loss.

“And that was one of the things I was afraid of coming into (this game). We had faced slow pitching the first two games and then today we faced a good pitcher and we couldn’t adjust.”

ACA’s pitcher, Kendall Watson, held the Eagles in check all afternoon, allowing just two hits.

Like the first two games, Alli Warrick took the pitcher’s circle, but was unable to cool down any of the Patriot batters.

Warrick went four innings giving up five runs, three of which were earned.

Amanda Griggs came into the game in the fifth, but had the same result, as ACA scored four more runs on her.

“I think we were a little jittery,” Hughes said.

“They are a good team that has scored a lot of runs on everyone they have faced (this tournament).

“We just couldn’t hold them down,” the coach added.

Now, the Eagles will play again at 3:30 for the right go to the 2A championship round, where it will face ACA again.
