For the second straight offseason, the Pike Liberal Arts football team is in search of a offensive coordinator.

After just one season with the Patriots, Wayne Grant has been released from his coaching responsibilities according to both PLAS head master Ceil Sikes and athletic director Steven Kilcrease.

“I think a lot of coach Grant,” Kilcrease said Thursday evening.

“He is a heck of a coach – one of the best around. But this was a decision I made that was in the team’s best interest.”

Grant, who had been coaching for 33 years prior to his stop at PLAS, was hired back in Jan. of 2009.

Before becoming the Patriots’ offensive coordinator, Grant was the head coach of the Pike County Bulldogs football team, where he helped the program win five Class 3A state championships, with the last coming back during the 2006 season.

As far as who will replace Grant on the sidelines at PLAS, Kilcrease said the school was going to try and find someone.

In the meantime, Kilcrease will be working with both the offense and the defense during spring practices.
