When you say “Bow-Wow” in and around Troy, the echo will usually be “Pow-Wow.”

The Pike Animal Shelter’s “Bow-Wow-Pow-Wows” are popular events for those who are considering adopting a “best friend” forever.

The Pike Animal Shelter sponsors three “Bow-Wow-Pow-Wows” annually and the spring dog adoption day will be from 2 until 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, next to Sears on Highway 231 north in Troy.

Donna Schubert, Founders Society chair, said three puppies and several adult dogs will be available for adoption on Saturday unless someone speaks for them before the Bow-Wow-Pow-Wow.

“The Pike Animal Shelter will participate in Troy University’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade at noon on Saturday and we’ll parade with some of the adoptable adorables,” Schubert said.

“So, there’s a chance that someone might see them in the parade and want to adopt them.”

The puppies that will be available for adoption are actually real “pound puppies.”

“They were born at the Troy Animal Shelter. They are mountain cur and lab mixes – two males and a female — with golden fur and tipped over ears,” Schubert said.

“We’ve named them, Fizz, Finn and Fern. They are adorable puppies and would make wonderful pets.”

Schubert said also up for adoption will be a “beautiful,” full-grown lab mix named Jack.

“We’ll probably have a couple of young, female rottweiler mixes named Mallory and Snap,” she said.

“There is also a possibility that we will have an adult Eskimo Spitz that needs a good home. But Princess is a diva and she needs to go to an ‘only dog’ home.”

Schubert said all animal lovers are invited to stop by the “Bow-Wow-Pow-Wow” on Saturday. The Pike Animal Shelter volunteers will have cookbooks and several free items for those who stop by to become acquainted with the adoptable dogs and learn more about the organization and its many events and activities.
