18-wheeler, car collide Friday

Two people were transported to the hospital Friday, after a car collided with an 18-wheeler on U.S. Highway 231.

Kawon Williams, 35, of Troy and the driver of a 1984 Ford LTD, was traveling with a female passenger on County Road 5532 when he failed to yield to an 18-wheeler traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 231, said Ala. Trooper Spokesman Kevin Cook.

Williams’ vehicle was totaled, and he and his passenger were transported to Troy Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 18-wheeler was Thomas South, 58, of Decatur.

Area fire departments responded to the scene, and police dispatchers said the vehicle caught fire.
