By the end of today’s soccer match between Charles Henderson and Valley High School, the Trojans could very well know its fate regarding the postseason.

In the annual match up between the two Class 5A rivals, CHHS will be looking secure a spot in the playoffs and a win would all the team needed.

“(The team) is definitely focused on winning (Friday night),” assistant coach Adam Drinkwater said Thursday night. “They have this game on theirs minds – they want to win it and they want to get to the playoffs.”

The Trojans enter the match with a 4-5 record, however, the team has won its last two games, with its last victory coming over rival Carroll on Tuesday night at CHHS.

The Rams enter the game, heading in the opposite direction, dropping its last two games and falling to 1-4 in the process.

Even with Valley’s record, Drinkwater said his team must be prepared for everything.

“When the playoffs are on the line, tensions can be high.

“The team has stayed focused though and they are not going to let another team or it’s emotions distract them,” the coach added.

The coach said a key to the Trojans success will be the teams ability to “play their game.”

“Goals are always going to win games,” he said. “We need to make sure we get a lead early and the take care of the ball the rest of the way.

“We have players who can score from anywhere on the field and I think we have shown that this season,” the coach added.

CHHS and Valley will play at 5 p.m. today at CHHS.
