For the first time in almost a week, the Charles Henderson baseball team will be back in action, as it plays host for the first time since the Terry Sike’s Invitational Tournament.
The Enterprise Wildcats will be in town for a double-header today at Frazier Field and will be looking to continue its hot start, as the team is currently 9-3.
“(Enterprise) is off to a great start,” head coach Derek Irons said. “I expect them to come here and put up a great effort. It should be a good game.”
But while Enterprise may be off to a good start, the same could be said for the Trojans, who enter the game with 12-3 record and who is currently ranked No. 5 in the state Class 5A polls.
“(The rankings) are something we are aware of,” the coach said. “And something we can’t control. “We don’t really put too much stock into them. It says a lot of about our program to be recognized like that and we are appreciative but it has not baring on whether we win or not – all it does it put a bulls-eye on our backs.”
Even with the rankings, Irons said he is a bit concerned about the team coming off its second lengthy break in as many weeks.
“Always worried about some rest coming off a break,” head coach Derek Irons said. “We have two big breaks during our season (Graduation exam week and spring break) and I think our guys responded well to the first and hopefully they will be as ready to play as we can be against Enterprise.”
The Wildcats and the Trojans will meet on the diamond today at 4:30 p.m.
