The baseball team wasn’t the only Pike Liberal Arts team to play host to South Montgomery County Academy on Friday night, as the softball team was also playing the Raiders.
And like the baseball team, the Patriots had a big night at the plate.
PLAS defeated South Montgomery 15-1 in five innings.
Shelby Broadway got the win for the Patriots, pitching a complete game, while striking out seven, giving up only one run on three hits.
“It is always good to start a tournament off like the way the girls did (Friday night) head coach Mendy Avant said following the victory.
“I thought we played pretty well tonight,” she added.
At the plate, the Patriots had to girls hit inside-the-park home runs thanks to Brandy Henderson and Kailee Taylor, who finished 2-2 and 3-4, respectively.
Sarah Richburg also had a productive night at the plate, going 2-2.
The win improves the Patriots to 5-2 on the season.
Next in line for PLAS is Prattville Christian, who has already defeated the Patriots once this season.
“Getting a big win like this always helps, and will be big for our girls going into the game against Prattville (Christian),” Avant said.
“I thought we did a good job hitting the ball (Friday night) – hopefully we can continue to play like this.”
The Patriots will take on Prattville Christian at 11 a.m. today at PLAS.
