In the first game of pool play at the Trojan Classic Saturday afternoon, the Charles Henderson softball team was hoping to stay hot at the plate against Marbury.

On Friday, the Trojans scored 17 runs in just two games, however, that would not be the case on Saturday.

The Trojans’ bats were unable to catch up to the pitching of the Marbury, as Bulldogs would go on to win 9-2.

“Marbury is a great softball team,” head coach Chad Lapp said.

“They can hit well, field well, pitch well – they got it all.”

CHHS fell down by six after three innings, however thanks to a Courtney Wood two-run homer, the Trojans were able to chip away at the lead.

Four runs would be as close as the team would get though.

Becca Hartley came in to replace Wood on the mound and would give up three more runs to the Bulldogs and thus end the Trojans tournament run.

“We had a hard time hitting today,” Lapp said.

“There are still a lot of things we have got to work now. We are going to take some time off and come back to work on Monday and get ready for the rest of the season.”
