The recreation basketball season is now at an end, this after all three Troy teams competing in district tournament play were eliminated Saturday.

The 10-U boys were able to defeat Elba in the first round of the district tournament in Greenville, but fell one win short of reaching the district championship game when they lost in the semifinals.

Neither of the other two teams were able to advance past the first-round.

The 12-U girls lost to Enterprise in the first game of District 6 tournament in Andalusia, while the 12-U boys lost to Greenville 34-29 in the first round of their tournament.

The head coach of the 12-U boys, Matt Brown, said it was tough to prepare the team with just two weeks of practice leading up to the tournament.

“We really tried our best, but we just came up a little bit short,” Brown said. “It’s hard having just two weeks. We gelled pretty well in those two weeks, probably as well as we could have gelled in that time, so I’m real proud of our kids.”

With the season now at an end, Brown said it felt good to look back on the experience and know he had been associated with a special group of players.

“It was great to be out there and know we had so much talent,” Brown said. “Plus, they are all good kids, so it was good to get to know good kids like they are. It’s also nice to be able to help them along with learning the game of basketball.”
