Pike Liberal Arts continued its offensive assault this past weekend, as it defeated Dixie Academy and Northside 17-0 and 12-1, respectively.

The double-header sweep improved the Patriots to 5-0 on the season.

“I thought we played fairly well,” head coach Butch Austin said. “We didn’t really hit the ball as well as we could, but we had good pitching and defense in both games.”

The coach continued, saying the strongest quality of the team is one that not comes at the plate, on the mound or in the field.

“We are playing together as a team,” Austin said. “This is the most together team I have ever had.” The reason being for this – the Patriots’ senior leadership led by its five seniors, Logan Stewart, Will Starling, Justin McLaughlin, Trey Walters and Ross Hixon.

“(The seniors) want to go out as a winner, they want to win no matter who they play,” the coach said.

On Monday, the Patriots continued its winning ways, beating Hooper Academy 20-1 in three winnings.

Sam Carroll got the win, allowing just one hit and one run.

“Sam pitched as good as I have ever seen him pitch (Monday night),” Austin said.

Carroll helped himself at the plate as well, hitting a home run.

Hixon and Stewart also went yard for the team in red and white. “We hit the ball very well tonight – as good as I have seen them all season long,” the coach said following the win.

The Patriots’ road trip will continue on Wednesday night, with a trip to Macon-East Montgomery Academy.
