UPDATE: The driver of the pickup truck was a juvenile, and therefore his name can not be released. A passenger of the truck and a third student on the bus are being treated at TRMC.

Two Banks School students have been transported to Troy Regional Medical after a truck collided with a school bus early this morning.

The truck rear-ended the bus sometime between 7 and 7:30 a.m. Thursday while the bus was stopped preparing to turn left, said Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas.

Thomas said the driver of the bus had all its signals on at the time the driver hit the bus.

“The driver of the bus and the truck were OK, and the students were OK, but two were transported to Troy Regional Medical Center just to be cautious,” Thomas said.

The truck had severe damage, but Thomas said the bus was essentially in tact.

“The bus had minor damage to the bumper,” he said.

Thomas said he isn’t sure the name of the driver or the cause of the incident.

Alabama State Troopers are working the incident, and The Messenger will continue to post updates.
