A single-vehicle crash early Saturday morning has resulted in the death of a Brundidge man.

Jose Ortega, 24, was killed in the wreck on Alabama Highway 125 about four miles south of Brundidge after his 2002 Ford Mustang collided with a tree, said Trooper Spokesman Kevin Cook.

Initial investigation indicates Ortega was traveling above the posted speed limit when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree around 5 a.m. Saturday.

Ortega was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

Cook said he was transported to Troy Regional Medical Center and pronounced dead by Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams.
