Weather causes local school delays

Classes will begin late for most school children in Pike County today due to the winter weather conditions overnight in the county.
Troy City Schools, Pike County Schools, Pike Liberal Arts School and New Life Christian Academy will delay the start until 10 a.m.
“Due to the possibility of inclement weather for Friday we will delay the start of school until 10 a.m.,” TCS Superintendent Linda Felton-Smith said.
PCS Superintendent Mark Bazzell said his system would delay starting until 10 a.m., also.
“Faculty should report at 8:30 as long as weather permits them to make it safely” Bazzell said.
Bazzell said bus drivers were to let students know what time they would begin this morning’s bus routes at the end of Thursday’s route in order to arrive at the schools by 9:45 a.m.
Schools will dismiss at normal times.
PLAS Headmistress Ceil Sikes said as of press time, students will begin at 10 a.m.
However, Sikes said if conditions worsen, she will put an update on the PLAS Web site under announcements.
New Life Christian Academy Administrator LaTasha Vaughn said the school would delay until 10 a.m., but if school is cancelled, they would notify local media.
At press time, Collegedale Christian School officials had not reached a decision for today’s classes, but said they would notify WTBF if cancellation is needed.
The Pike County Alternative Learning Center will be closed today.
