A Troy man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in October.

Garnell Moultry, also known as “Gottie,” a 56-year-old black male, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. at a residence in the 100 block of Aster Avenue on charges of rape first degree, said Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

Scarbrough said a warrant was issued for Moultry’s arrest for an incident alleged Oct. 15. The warrant was signed by the victim Oct.29.

Scarbrough said the victim alleged Moultry approached her around 8:30 p.m. that night as she was walking back to her residence from a nearby store. It is alleged Moultry was armed with a pistol at the time of the incident.

“The victim told police he forcibly raped her,” Scarbrough said.

The incident took place on Lake Avenue, near Dempt Walker Avenue.

Scarbrough said it did not happen in a residence on those streets.

Moultry was taken to the Troy Police Department without incident on this outstanding warrant Wednesday.

He was then taken to the Pike County Jail, where his bond has been set at $100,000.

Due to the nature of the allegations, the victim’s name could not be released.

Scarbrough said he is uncertain whether the two were acquainted with one another prior to this occurrence.
