Animal shelter adoption day Sat.

The Pike Animal Shelter volunteers have a big place for animals in their hearts. That’s why their shelter adoption event to be held Saturday couldn’t have come at a more fitting time, they said.
“The holidays are a family-oriented time, and animals are important parts of our families,” said shelter volunteer Michael Green.
This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Pike Animal Shelter will partner with Tractor Supply to hold its quarterly adoption event.
Chair of the Founders Society Donna Schubert said she isn’t sure just how many animals will be available for adoption at Tractor Supply Saturday.
“It will depend on the number at the shelter that day,” Schubert said.
“We are always cautious about bringing the number that is right for the space. It will depend also who all is available and who we think will be appropriate in a setting like that.”
This adoption event is not the first time the shelter has partnered with a local business, as some events have been held at Sears on U.S. Highway 231.
But, this partnership is one that she said will be different, since Tractor Supply sells pet supplies in its store.
“They invited us to do this because they have pet supplies,” Schubert said. “We love to do it because we love good hosts.”
For each dog adopted Saturday, the new retail outlet will donate a bag of dog food.
And, since this event is held near the Christmas season, Schubert said it will also be a way for the shelter to promote its membership, sell t-shirts, gift cards and other items to benefit the fundraising effort.
Schubert said some examples are Christmas cards that will benefit the shelter.
“If someone wants to give a meaningful, lasting gift this Christmas, then contributions to the shelter are perfect,” Schubert said. “We’ll even have some pre-wrapped items to make the gift giving even easier.”
