Whoever said you can’t buy happiness forgot little puppies.

And there’s a whole lot of happiness waiting at the Troy Animal Shelter. But it’s not for sale.

It’s free for those who are looking for a puppy to take into their homes and into their hearts.

Su Green, adoption and program chair of the Troy Animal Shelter Coalition, said Sybil, a bull mix, has six five-week old puppies, four males and two females, that are up for adoption now.

“Kate, a weimaraner/lab mix, give birth at the shelter five days ago to eight puppies,” Green said.

“We are calling them ‘Kate Plus Eight.’ These puppies are silky, silver and so beautiful. It will be five weeks before they are adoptable.”

Adelyne is about to give birth any day. She is a brown and black mix and her puppies will be adoptable in about six weeks.

“Some people who are looking for a dog to adopt would rather have puppies and we have six really pretty ones ready now for adoption and in a few weeks we’ll have eight plus Adelyne’s puppies,” Green said. Anyone who is interested in adopting Sybil’s puppies are encouraged to make an appointment by calling 334-372-2714. Appointments may be made to see “Kate Plus Eight” and pre-adoption plans can be made through the animal control officers, Ken Andress and Carroll Connell.“Puppies that are adopted through the Troy Animal Shelter will have their kennel cough vacination but their first shots must be given when they leave the shelter,” Green said.

“Those who adopt shelter puppies are required to have them spayed or neuter. There is a huge overpopulation of dogs and cats all across the country and spaying and neutering is the best way to control the animal population.”

The Troy Animal Shelter always has adult dogs that make good companion pets and there is usually a good mix of breeds at the shelter.

The Troy-Pike Animal Shelter Coalition encourages those who are looking for a companion dog, whether a puppy or an adult, to visit that Troy Animal Shelter because there are always dogs there that need and want a good home with a loving family.
