After last Friday’s 21-6 win over Booker T. Washington, the Trojans of Charles Henderson will be looking for more of the same against Valley High School.

CHHS (1-2) was finally able to win its first game of the season after dropping its first two games to Greenville and Tallassee.

In the first half against the Golden Eagles, CHHS struggled offensively as it did earlier in the season.

In the 16 plays the Trojans’ offense ran it only gained 37 yards, with only one first down to speak of.

In the second half however the offense finally clicked to the tune of 21 points and 150 total yards.

Senior quarterback K.D. Edenfield was a big reason way the Trojan offense finally came to life.

Edenfield finished the night completing six of his 12 passes for 82 yards – three of those six passes were for touchdowns.

“This was a game that we had to have,” the quarterback said after the win over the Golden Eagles. “I really feel like we were able to do a lot on offense in the second half.”

Now, both Edenfield and the Trojans face a new test in the Rams.

The Class 5A Region 2 foe comes into the game with a 2-1 record and on a two-game winning streak, beating Rehobeth and Carroll by a combined score of 67-12.

“They are the best team in the region,” CHHS head coach Hugh Fountain said. “They are the team to beat.”

Fountain went on to say that a win against a team like the Rams would be something that could propel the Trojans throughout the rest of the season.

“This is a big game for us,” the coach said. “Winning would be a good way to kind of right the wrong done from earlier this season, and that is something that everyone on this team knows.”

Valley will come into Movie Gallery Veteran Stadium ranked No. 37 in the state, according to Maxpreps.com.

“If we have any intention of being region champions – this is a must win game,” Fountain said.

One way for the Trojans to make those intentions that Fountain talked about clear is playing better offensively in the first half.

So far this season, CHHS has yet to score a point in the first two quarters of play.

“That is something that has really hurt us,” Fountain said.

“We have had more three-in-outs in our first halves this season, then most teams do in an entire season.

“Obviously, that is something that has to change,” the coach said.

Fountain had a simple answer when asked how the team goes about trying to change things around.

“We have to stress fundamentals,” he said.

“It takes 11 guys on the field, functioning together, to get an offensive to be productive. We have to keep plugging’ away at it.”

The Trojans and the Rams will get underway at 7 p.m., and Movie Gallery Veteran Stadium.
