A Troy man was arrested Tuesday and charged with the theft of two vehicles.

Melvin Jermaine Christian, 21, was taken into custody and faces charges of theft of property first degree after two different vehicles went missing, said Troy Police Spokesman Sgt. Benny Scarbrough.

He is alleged to have taken a 2000 Mercedes Benz from a business on North Three Notch Street at around 8 a.m. Tuesday and a 2002 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck on Sept. 10.

Scarbrough said an eyewitness identified Christian as the man who stole the Mercedes Benz.

“A witness observed a black male get into the Mercedes Benz and identified the suspect as Christian,” Scarbrough said.

Christian was stopped while driving the vehicle, when a Troy Police officer observed a vehicle matching the description on Knox Street.

He was transported to the Troy Police Department for further investigation, and subsequent investigation led to his arrest in the Sept. 10 incident, as well.

He has been transported to the Pike County Jail where his bond was set at $5,000.
