The Trojan Baseball Club 14-and-under Labor Day Classic wrapped up on Monday concluding another weekend full of baseball at Riddle-Pace Field.
Five different teams were in action in three games on Monday.
In the first game, the Montgomery Dirtbags beat the Mobile Hitmen 7-1, in the second game Stix beat Troy Baseball 11-1 and in the final the Trojan Baseball Club beat the Mobile Hitmen, 7-3.
“The tournament was very well received by everyone involved,” Mark Smartt, one of the coaches for the Trojans Baseball Club, said.
“The main goal was to give people who live outside of Troy first hand exposure of the facilities we have here.”
The coached added that there were several different goals that the coaches wanted to see the classic accomplish.
“[The classic] was a great way for the kids participating in it to get the opportunity to play in front of some college coaches as well as get familiar with playing on a college baseball field,” coach Smartt added.
For the weekend the Trojan Baseball Club finished with a record of 3-1.
The two other teams were the Wiregrass Cardinals and Line Drive.
“I am very proud with how the kids played,” Smartt said.
“It was great to see what they could do on the field and I think all the teams were really able to take something away from the weekend.”
The classic had seven teams participating in it and all of the games took place this past weekend, beginning on Saturday.
Each of the teams was from Alabama and entirely made up of 14-year-old, or younger, baseball players.
