A Union Springs man was fatally injured in a one vehicle accident on Alabama Highway 223 about one mile south of Saco around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.

State Trooper Kevin Cook said Louis Scorpio McCullum, 27, was apparently traveling north at a high rate of speed when his 1998 Lincoln Towncar left the road in a curve and struck a tree.

“Seatbelts were available in the vehicle but were not in use at the time of the accident,” Cook said. “The airbag deployed.”

Cook said the accident remains under investigation.

“However, alcohol does not apprear to be a factor,’ he said. “Speed contributed to the cause of the crash.”
