Mary Hughes

Mary R. Hughes died June 10, 2009 at Wellstar Kennestone from congestive heart failure. Born July 8, 1930 in Fayetteville, North Carolina to Millard and Nellie Daughtry. She was the youngest of three children and preceded in death by her two brothers, Millard Jr. and Harold Daughtry. Mrs. Hughes was raised in Troy, Alabama before moving to Macon, Ga where she lived for almost 50 years. She had resided in Woodstock, Ga for the past eight years.
Mrs. Hughes was a hairdresser for most of her life, working years from her home shop to be close to her children. Mary was an avid reader and crossword puzzle worker. She loved to sew, knit, and crochet. She always had a garden of vegetables and flowers.
Mrs. Hughes was preceded in death by her husband, Moore Ray Hughes, and her oldest son, Richard Alan Hughes.
Mrs. Hughes is survived by her son, Michael A., and his wife, Belinda, and daughter, Brittney of Woodstock, Ga. Her late son’s wife, Roberta, and their three daughters, Lindsay, Meredith, and Madison of Acworth, Ga. Her beloved Chihuahua, Baby.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 25, at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church Woodstock. Pastor Burney Enzor of Troy, Alabama will be officiating the ceremony. She will be buried at the National Veterans Cemetery in Canton.
